I am interested in becoming a coach but I am having a hard time comparing the different coaching programs out there. There are so many programs and it is hard to know what qualities of the programs are most important to consider.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Divine,

You are right, there are a lot of options out there and it is difficult to choose.

Some things to consider are:
-Your learning style
-If you need structure vs more flexibility
-The coaching certifications you would like to work towards
-The community associated with each school

Thomas Leonard was a pioneer in coaching, and he founded both CoachU and Coachville - they would be major options.

There are also local programs in most areas.

One thing I found really useful was meeting other coaches and talking to them about their career path. CoachU has chapter meetings everywhere where local coaches get together and chat about local coach happenings. Try this link for the chapter meetings:

Good luck!

Thank you for your response.

One thing that I am still not certain about is the ICF certification of the school. How important is that?

I have looked at few schools but have been most drawn to CoachU and Coachville. It does not appear that Coachville is ICF Certified or maybe I am not finding the information explaining that it is.

Thanks again for your help.

I'd love to point you to the Coach Training Institute (CTI) too... I'm in training with them at the moment and have found the course mind-blowing! They don't seem to advertise much - I found out about them through word-of-mouth so thought I'd pay i forward

Do get in touch if you'd like to find out more.

Michelle has recommended David Wood from Solution Box on another post and I know he has a report that compares many of the different coaching schools around the world that could be useful in deciding.

I've put together a list of life coaching courses and articles for anyone that's interested in going through life coach training.  I'm looking to incorporate reviews of training programs in the future.
